I had a wonderful first two weeks in June. My mother and brother visited me from half way round the world. Also, I'm very fortunate to constantly receive love and encouragement in multiple forms from Carrie, my extended family, and close friends.
Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. Paul White identified five languages of appreciation. These languages can be applied to relationships, marriages, and the workplace.
Words of Affirmation （肯定的话语）
A simple "Good Job" or "I appreciate it" goes a long way.

Undivided attention and deep listening are key.

A child will never forget his father giving him piggyback rides. What about cooking a meal for your loved ones?
Tangible Gifts （爱的礼物）
Flowers for V-Day seldom go wrong. Personalized gifts and cards are even better.
Physical Touch （身体的接触）
Say goodbye with a hug and encourage with a pat on the shoulder.

Everything you write here is so cheem. My poor mind is trying its hardest to comprehend. Guess I'm no MIT material. But this post I do understand. What a blessing to have your mum and brother visit you. Have a good time at MIT. Yes, be humbled by the great minds around you. Better yet, be amazed by the great God who created the wonderful Niagara Falls (I saw your Instagram pictures). And who am I, you asked? Your beloved ex-piano-teacher. The one whose studio you peer into while he was teaching your brother.

ReplyDeleteI've better! Too bad I'm not making my way to the US of A anytime next year, otherwise it will be great to meet up with you. I've been to Boston but for one day. Will be nice to have you take me around. Take care and enjoy your time learning.
